Hertford in Bloom back for 2020!
So may people are at home and tending their gardens that Mudlarks and Love Flowers want to carry on the community spirit, and gardening is so good for your mind, body, and soul.
The aim of the competition is to encourage the improvement of our town through the imaginative use of plants and flowers. It also aims to achieve a litter free and sustainable environment, and to beautify the town for residents.
There are a few slight changes to this year’s competition in line with social distancing rules, but there are still 6 great categories for you to choose from and judging will take place during the 2nd week of July.
Entries are now open for people situated in the SG13 and SG14 postcode area who want to help to transform Hertford with floral displays this summer.
The competition is open to everyone from novices to professional gardeners.

- Best Large Front Garden (over 3 metres)
- Best Small Garden Frontage or Balcony (under 3 metres)
- Best Public House
- Best Hanging Basket/Planters/ Window Box
- Tallest Sunflower (under 16’s)
- Best Allotment
Hertford in Bloom Competition Rules
All entrants must be situated in SG13 or SG14
Only living (real) flowers/ plants / grassed areas to be used - (applies to all categories)
The competition is organised by Mudlarks and Love Flowers, is free to enter and the judges' decision is final.
Best Large Front Garden (over 3 metres): Open to all private residential premises. Front gardens must be visible to passers-by, and can include bedding plants, herbaceous plants, shrubs trees lawns and containers.
Best Small Garden Frontage or Balcony (under 3 metres): Open to all private residential premises. Front gardens must be visible to passers-by, and can be any living floral design.
Best Public House: All entries must be visible to the passer-by, can be of any floral design, and a living planted display.
Best Hanging Basket/Planters/ Window Box: All entries must be visible to the passer-by, can be of any floral design, and a living planted display.
Tallest Sunflower (under 16’s): Sunflowers must be grown at home the entrant. Any variety of sunflower (Helianthus species) is eligible for entry and must be visible to passers-by. Entries must be live plants.
Best Allotment: The judges will visit each site, and consider all plots. A positive impact on the environment is a key criterion.
